just noticing that the forum uses the same icon for new posts and popular(no new posts) there are also icons that are used for 2 or more threads type not good
there are also missing smiles

That way the new posts get the same advertisment as the popular ones. It's a structure thing.

There is a difference. But regardless of any difference people will visit both if they are marked as new or popular
