New server location @ 2012

As my routing to our game server and therefore my ping is bad for quite a while now I'm considering to switch the server hoster as for end of this year.
You can help me out by providing information about your ping.

Open your console (on windows, run -> cmd) and get the output (the last line) of the following two commands:

1. (ping to current server)

Code:

ping 85.31.186.161

For me that is:

As you can see my average ping to the current server is about 72ms while to the new server it is 42ms. On our current server I also get nasty pingjumps (103ms in this example).

Your help is appreciated (and you might profit too with a lower and more stable ping)! I will try to find a server hoster that makes everyone happy, but I need your input for that

But i`m still stupid and don`t know what it means

It means that 18,8ms after you sent a message to our server you receive an answer ("package received at destination!"). 13,8ms to the new server is even faster.
Ingame it affects the delay between your mouseclick and the shot fired. With high ping for example it takes a while for the nexbeam to get fired after you pressed the mouse button.
In general, lower ping = better.

So far with the new server everyone but flint (though 40ms is still pretty good) and neolink (no change in ping, but maybe less lags?) would have a notable improvement in ping time.

ok, … than i have no more excuses for my bad aim ;(

It's getting serious..
Our current server will be available till 3rd February 2012. Our new server will come online later this month (December).
That means we will have 2 root servers available for ~2.5 months and can stop the whole migrating thing if we are not satisfied with the new server + everyone can compare both servers side-by-side.

As a bonus we will have a lot of server slots to spend during that period. Nexball 16v16 server anyone?

I cannot give packet information, but for the old server, an average 120 - 123ms was shown.

As for the new server, I was getting 116 - 120, with an average of 117.

Better ping is good.
